Senior Construction Inspector (CEI)

About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Construction Inspector to join our growing Construction Engineering and Inspection (CEI) team in Tennessee. You will provide on-site management and observation, field testing, and quality assurance for civil roadway/bridge projects working with TDOT, local agencies, contractors, utility providers, and other stakeholders to ensure roadway and bridge projects are constructed in strict accordance with project plans and specifications.

 Key Responsibilities:

  • Field Inspections:

    • Manage/perform field inspections of roadway, bridge, drainage, and transportation construction projects to verify compliance with contract documents, plans, specifications, standards, and permit requirements.

    • Manage/conduct field measurements of pay items and verify quantities for contractor payment and project records.

  • Quality Assurance:

    • Manage, perform and document materials sampling, testing, and inspection of soils, aggregate, asphalt, concrete, and other construction materials

    • Review and monitor construction progress and contractor schedules to ensure project requirements are achieved.

  • Reporting:

    • Maintain detailed daily diaries, quantity calculations, and supporting documentation and enter information into construction management software.

    • Track project progress and prepare supporting documentation for monthly estimates, contract modifications, and project closeout activities.

  • Safety & Compliance:

    • Conduct EPSC (Erosion Prevention and Sediment Control) inspections, enforce OSHA safety standards, non-conforming work, and field discrepancies with project plans and specifications. 

    • Support compliance with federal, state, and local requirements.

  • Collaboration:

    • Act as the primary liaison between project managers, contractors, and state/municipal clients.

    • Act as a mentor for junior inspectors as needed.

    • Attend project meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities to maintain technical knowledge and industry best practices.

 Required Qualifications:

  • Experience: 8+ years of experience in transportation (CEI)

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent (Engineering/Construction Management degree is a strong plus).

  • Certifications:

    • TDOT Certifications or Equivalent (Asphalt Roadway, Concrete Field Technician, Soils and Aggregate)

    • TDEC Level 1 (EPSC) certification

    • ACI Grade I or NICET levels

    • OSHA 10-Hour minimum

  • Skills: Appia or equivalent construction management software experience, ability to read construction plans

  • Physical Demands: Must be willing to work in office and outdoors in varying weather conditions, walk uneven terrain, and stand for extended periods.
