Pickering Firm, Inc., a leading regional engineering and consulting firm, is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Geologist/Environmental Engineer to join our Natural Resources team.
Job Summary:
In this position, you will provide geoscience expertise to support a wide range of engineering and environmental projects. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, you will analyze data, conduct field investigations, prepare reports, and develop insights that inform project planning, design, and execution. This role is key to ensuring environmental compliance and advancing sustainable project development.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESA) to evaluate potential contamination risks.
Conduct field investigations, including soil and groundwater sampling, site characterization, and subsurface analysis.
Develop and support remediation plans in collaboration with engineers and scientists.
Monitor remediation activities to verify compliance with project requirements and regulatory standards.
Apply GIS and geospatial tools to analyze and visualize environmental data.
Produce maps, models, and visualizations to support technical findings.
Prepare technical reports, including geological assessments, site investigations, and environmental impact studies.
Work with multidisciplinary teams—engineers, planners, biologists, and cultural resource specialists—to integrate environmental considerations into project designs.
Communicate findings and recommendations to clients, regulators, and stakeholders.
Stay current with federal, state, and local environmental regulations to ensure compliance.
Provide input on environmental risks and constraints during project planning.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Engineering, Earth Science, or related field.
Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in geology, engineering, earth sciences, or related disciplines (GIS experience preferred).
Proficiency with GIS, Microsoft Office, and other environmental analysis tools.
Strong knowledge of environmental regulations (NEPA, CERCLA, RCRA, and state/local laws).
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and written/oral communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification (or ability to obtain).
Preferred Skills:
Experience managing multiple projects and client relationships.
Previous work with federal agencies such as DOT, FHWA, USACE, or BLM.
Project management and client engagement experience.
Professional Geologist (PG) or Professional Engineer (PE) license or eligibility for licensure.
