Civil Engineering

Pickering was selected as part of a planning and design team to provide engineering services for the $100 million parking garage and ground transportation center at Memphis International Airport.

The garage structure doubles the size of the previous garage, making it the largest per floor garage at any national airport.

The garage includes parking for 4,500 public parkers and 1,500 rental car spaces for 7 different rental car operators.

Since the project serves two different uses, it has numerous entrances and exits and various locations and elevations, thus requiring various retaining walls, extensive traffic signage and architectural enhancements including a six-story screening wall modeled after an aircraft airfoil.

Pickering performed civil engineering, ingress/egress design and grading and drainage for the garage which included over 1,000 feet of 72-inch storm drain pipe, three dedicated overhead sign structures, an extensive array of retaining walls and a rental car wash and fueling station.
