UST Assessment & Remediation

The Coastal Energy Company site is a former UST facility located on Highway 90 in Waveland, Mississippi. This facility operated as a filling station from approximately 1976 until it was demolished by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Assessment and remediation activities began at this site in 2003 after a report of vapors in a nearby business coming from a sewer lift station. The initial emergency response assessment resulted in the discovery of a free product plume impacting the site. Assessment and remediation of this site is ongoing.

Pickering has managed the assessment and remediation activities at the Former Coastal Energy site since 2015. The project tasks completed thus far have included groundwater sampling events, free product sampling, historical research of the site and surrounding properties, ground penetrating radar (GPR) surveying, and professional land surveying. Additinally, Pickering contracted with William Benni, of IAtM, Inc., to conduct groundwater modelling and develop remediation alternatives to address the free product present at the site. Currently, Pickering is collecting additional data from the site to assist in the development of a remedial path forward for this project.
